this textile series is inspired by the works of gertrud arndt,
particularly her portrait series
'maskenbilder' and the discrepancy
found within her artistry.
the six selected portraits reflect experimental facettes of the bauhaus' artist, revealed in the private and safe environment of her domestic space. in juxtaposition with arndt's drawings and weaving designs from her early studies, an ambivalent connections between the inner and outer representation of herself become visible.
Through a process of working
with color and material collages,
her facial expressions, clothes and costumes were translated into CAD patterns for jacquard loom. each woven textile is inspired by the distinctive expression of a single portrait.
